摘要: One of the most known sedimentary formation among Egyptian Upper Cretacous rock units is named Duwi Formation (Lower Maastrichtian), an outcrop at Abu Tartur plateau, Kharga Oasis, Western Desert, Egypt. This displays three montmorillonitic clayey layers. The investigations these sediments provide information on texture, constituents and type clay minerals, which helps define describe their physical technical properties. Granulometrically, selected samples have siltstone, mudstone claystone facies. Mineralogical analysis studied deposits proved that minerals compose mainly montmorillonite, in addition to small amount glauconite, traces illite. Scanning electron microscopy revealed main micro-structures, namely honeycomb, matrix, turbulent. Acid activation eight was performed using hydrochloric acid. efficiency examined by measuring bleaching capacity crude cotton seed oil, changes surface areas. acid treatment resulted more than 4-fold increase activity pretreated bentonite samples. extent found be pronounced after first 30 minutes treatment.
