摘要: Neuropeptide Y (NPY) stimulates food intake and promotes weight gain, whereas melanocortins have the opposite effect. Yet both peptides are synthesized in arcuate nucleus, a hypothalamic area involved energy homeostasis. We report here that mRNA encoding NPY melanocortin precursor, proopiomelanocortin (POMC) expressed adjacent, but distinct, subpopulations of nucleus neurons. Moreover, these neurons coexpress Agouti-related protein (Agrp), an endogenous receptor antagonist, fasting increases expression species. Our findings suggest NPY/Agrp constitute unique cell type is activated by to stimulate via simultaneous increase decrease melanocortin.
