摘要: Linking pattern to process across spatial and temporal scales has been a key goal of the field biogeography. In January 2017, 8th biennial conference International Biogeography Society sponsored symposium on Building up biogeography—process that aimed review progress towards this goal. Here we present summary symposium, in which identified promising areas current research suggested future directions. We focus (1) emerging types data such as behavioural observations ancient DNA, (2) how better incorporate historical (such fossils) move beyond what term “footprint measures” past dynamics (3) role novel modelling approaches (e.g. maximum entropy theory ecology approximate Bayesian computation) conceptual frameworks can play unification disciplines. suggest gaps separating are shrinking, bridge these aspects by considering dimensions space time simultaneously.
