摘要: The Indonesian Throughflow acts as a major switchboard in the global thermohaline circulation, and its variability is strongly related to tropical climate dynamics on shorter longer timescales. During Holocene Pleistocene, fluctuating sea surface temperature salinity patterns Western Pacific Warm Water Pool Seas variations East Asian monsoon strength mainly controlled intensity hydrological characteristics of throughflow. Additionally, glacial/deglacial sea-level change influenced throughflow volume shallow sections many passages (i.e. southern part Timor passage NW Australian shelf) thus altering heat transfer between oceans. tectonic history Gateway ultimately long-term evolution Pliocene, changes position geometry inflow (Mindanao Passage North Halmahera south) relation front significantly modified climatic role Indian Oceans, resulting reduced atmospheric transport from tropics high latitudes. However, precise timing restriction thermocline water flow difficult ascertain. early was characterized by deep pathway Oceans at approximately 25 Ma. By Miocene, already closed Oceans.
