摘要: There has been growing evidence that phase I metabolizing enzymes cytochromes P450 (CYPs) are not only located in the endoplasmic reticulum but also other subcellular compartments and particularly mitochondria. The presence of CYPs these organelles raises questions regarding their metabolic role possible deleterious effects on respiratory chain complexes mitochondrial DNA. This review will focus one particular CYP, CYP2E1, which represents a significant source reactive oxygen species is involved metabolism small molecule substrates including ethanol, drugs carcinogens. Since hepatic CYP2E1 expression increased different physiopathological situations such as type 2 diabetes, obesity ethanol intoxication, levels this CYP within mitochondria could have major effects. recalls main data brought to fore mechanism its targeting organelle. potential pathological consequences linked be subsequently discussed.
