摘要: The dynamics of magnetic relaxation Tm atoms in cold helium gas is investigated using ab initio interaction potentials between Tm({sup 2}F) and He atoms. with gives rise to four adiabatic {sigma}{sup +}, {pi}, {delta}, {phi} symmetries, which are found be degenerate within 0.1 cm{sup -1} at all interatomic distances larger than R=5.4 Angst . small splitting the leads suppression Zeeman transitions Tm-He collisions. Our quantum scattering calculations yield a rate constant 1.5x10{sup -15} 3} s{sup for 2}F{sub 7/2}) maximally stretched M=7/2 sublevel temperature 0.8 K, reasonable agreement measured value (5.0{+-}2.1)x10{sup -1}. sensitivity Zeeman-relaxation cross sections details examined. To our knowledge, this one only two comparisons experimental measurements inelastic collisions subkelvin temperatures near Kelvin. work thus demonstrates feasibility describing from first principles.
