摘要: Abstract High frequency acoustic emission monitoring is proving a useful technique in improving the understanding of deformation processes occurring nano- and micro-scale mechanical contacts. In this study AE has been used to investigate fracture alumina MgO-partially stabilised zirconia (PSZ) at high strain rate repetitive nano-impact tests with cube-corner 5 μm radius spherical diamond indenters. Focussed ion beam milling impact craters revealed sub-surface intergranular cracking on transgranular PSZ. The evolution through test was strongly dependent geometry indenter create impacts. energy generally much higher when impacts cause rapid increases penetration depth, single hits observed abrupt depth bursts cube corner indenter. damage progression differed between ceramics, more events near start later for Reasons these differences are discussed.
