摘要: Publisher Summary Excitotoxins (ETs) are useful, as either provocative or ablative systemic tools for studying the wide range of neuroendocrine functions; those circumventricular organ (CVO) neurons believed to mediate. In addition, regulatory roles other not accessible blood-borne ETs can be studied by injecting an appropriate ET directly into locale such neurons, using a low dose provoke acute reversible change in endocrine status high delete and, thereby permanently eliminate their influence over parameter concerned. Several have been shown induce Glu-like dendrosomatotoxic/ axon-sparing lesions when introduced various brain regions. For research purposes, therefore, produced subcutaneous administration direct intrahypothalamic injection ET. Some advantages approach noninvasiveness, ease administration, bilateral symmetry lesions, and yield animals bearing uniform characteristics. A potential disadvantage is that lesion specific single region, but rather several regions which lack blood–brain barriers.
