摘要: Oligosaccharides based on GalNAcα–Ser/Thr linkages (mucin-type O-glycans) found many glycoproteins are highly diverse in their structures with multiple potential biological functions. Mucins and mucin-like cell surfaces, as well mucins secretions, especially rich these O-glycans. The ranges of O-glycans often shifted disease states, which indicates that the biosynthesis is also abnormal expression activities enzymes involved (glycosyltransferases sulfotransferases) may be affected. assembled by stepwise addition individual sugar residues specific glycosyltransferases sulfotransferases. assembly controlled transferases Golgi, localization compartments, interaction cofactors other components Golgi membranes. exist families members having similar but distinct substrate specificities different tissue-specific patterns. Modeling crystal help to elucidate protein folding catalytic mechanisms glycosyltransferases. These studies shed light complex regulation O-glycan identify changes diseases.
