Contribution of the Trunk Highway System to Road Safety in China over the Past 18 Years

摘要: At the end of 1980s, Ministry Communications China, formulated a strategic plan to construct national trunk highway system in 30 years starting from 1990 and ending at 2020, which comprises 12 highways with total length 35,900 kilometers. As time passed, it became clear that completion would be ahead schedule. In fact, was finished 2007. It took only 18 for China this initially projected take build. The mission study focuses on following three aspects. They are (i) determine crash rate, fatality rate injury highways, reduced levels them when compared those Class II highways; (ii) establish standard prevented, lives saved, injuries avoided corresponding economic gains operating system; (iii) estimate safety improvement during past years.The results show is estimated have prevented nearly 1,000,000 crashes, spared least 100,000, 580,000, obtained 12.5 billion Yuan safety.
