摘要: SUMMARY Infection or vaccination confers heightened resistance to pathogen rechallenge because of quantitative and qualitative differences between naive primary memory T cells. Herein, we show that secondary (boosted) CD8 + cells were better than in controlling some, but not all acute infections with diverse pathogens. However, less efficient an equal number at preventing chronic LCMV infection are more susceptible functional exhaustion. Importantly, localization within lymph nodes, which is reduced by antigen restimulation, was critical for both viral control nodes the sustained cell response required prevent infection. Thus, repeated stimulation shapes populations either enhance decrease per protective immunity a pathogenspecific manner, concept importance vaccine design against specific diseases.
