摘要: Background: Bimaxillary osteotomy, including bilateral sagittal split is the most commonly performed orthognathic surgical intervention in Europe and United States. Neurosensory perturbation territory of inferior alveolar nerve a reported adverse effect osteotomy. Piezosurgery relatively new technique that allows bone to be cut while preserving soft tissues, nerves. The purpose this study was assess function through clinical neurosensory testing after osteotomy using Piezosurgery. Methods: Between February September 2004, 20 patients (40 sides) presenting with dentoskeletal deformities underwent bimaxillary Mectron device used perform all splits, distraction being between two valves. evaluated both objectively testing, pin-prick sensation, light touch two-point discrimination tests, subjectively at following time points: preoperatively; days 5, 7, 10, postoperatively; second month postoperatively. Results: anatomical integrity respected cases. Observed normal results for different tests 10 were 90, 82, 70 percent, respectively, discrimination. By computing scores authors observed 75 80 percent complete recuperation as early postoperative month. Conclusions: prompt recovery within 2 months. No comparison possible standard
