摘要: Extracellular responses to auditory stimuli of single units in the principal division medial geniculate body were examined. Two distinct areas identified on basis these responses. These positions correspond dorsocaudal (DC) and ventral (MGV) divisions division, as differentiated cytoarchitecturally. Within MGV, vast majority discharged transiently onset with a short latency. also highly frequency specific, having sharp threshold tuning curves. In contrast, DC broadly tuned, responded at long latency, often habituated quickly repetitive stimulation. A small subset similarly MGV curves exhibiting latencies tonal stimuli. Unlike there was no tonotopic organization within DC. separate tonotopically organized regions found corresponding differentiation this region into two but adjacent laminated nuclei. The three dimensions pars lateralis (PL) revealed low frequencies ventrocaudolaterally higher being added progressively dorsorostromedially. ovoidea (OV) not so easily discernible. However, penetrations ventrorostral orientation encountered an abrupt change from high presumed PL-OV border, followed by increasing sequence best OV. differences response characteristics between are discussed relation known anatomy connections cat body.
