摘要: Abstract Kingsbury, David T. (University of Washington, Seattle), and Erling J. Ordal. Bacteriophage infecting the myxobacterium Chondrococcus columnaris. Bacteriol. 91:1327–1332. 1966.—During a series screening experiments, seven bacteriophages which infect pathogenic columnaris were isolated. Of these, one was chosen for detailed study. This phage has wide host range among strains C. columnaris, but does not other myxobacterial species tested. Morphologically, this resembles coliphage T2, though it is smaller. It head diameter 600 A, tail length 1,000 width 200 A. The attached to by well-defined neck. turbid plaques produced are similar in appearance those λ, average 1 mm diameter. latent period 100 min, rise an additional 90 burst size 23. Calcium ions at concentration 0.004 m required adsorption. requirement cannot be met substitution magnesium ions. A purified preparation 2 × 1012 particles extracted with phenol, nucleic acid identified as deoxyribonucleic (DNA). Base ratios DNA two propagating similar. Streptomycin 70 μg/ml inhibits infection early stage, probably inhibiting injection DNA.
