Growth hormone and proopiomelanocortin are targeted by autoantibodies in a patient with biopsy-proven IgG4-related hypophysitis

摘要: Hypophysitis is a chronic inflammation of the pituitary gland often caused by autoimmunity. Among autoimmune diseases it one few where autoantigens remain to be identified. The goal paper was characterize antigenic profile in previously reported patient with IgG4-related hypophysitis. Immunofluorescence and immunoblotting were performed detect antibodies human proteins. proteins recognized western blotting then submitted mass spectrometry for sequencing. patient’s autoantibodies two unique bands around 40 30 kDa on immunoblotting. Sequencing revealed peptide from proopiomelanocortin band four peptides growth hormone band. This work represents first hypophysitis, recognition as possible autoantigen. In addition, supports previous suggestions Further studies are needed prove pathogenicity diagnostic utility these
