Reducing bend and coupling losses in integrated optical waveguides

摘要: A groove is disposed in a substrate longitudinally along the outside radius of bent integrated optical waveguide to constrain mode energy propagating therein such that would normally be radiated confined waveguide, thereby reducing transmission loss through bend. Further, reduce coupling between an and fiber, two grooves are either side approximate fiber. To further both bend losses, ends away from waveguide.
