摘要: Aim Evaluation of the generality diversity–elevation relationship has highlighted effects scale (spatial extent and grain size) on pattern perception. In contrast, attribution drivers diversity along elevational gradients remain largely unexplored. This is important because many causal factors have been proposed, remotely sensed data about abiotic are available at increasingly fine sizes. Here, we evaluate both resolution species estimate perceived, environmental predictor size potential contribution to each pattern. Location Ruby Mountains, Nevada, western North America. Methods For small mammal fauna one local gradient, compared patterns among estimates richness derived from site-based occurrences rarefied by survey effort those inferred interpolation across species’ ranges. Using an information-theoretic approach, evaluated relative importance spatial in structuring distribution. Climate habitat were assessed coarse Comparisons based model fit variable importance. Results We find general congruence relationship, with peak near midpoint sampled gradient. Despite this commonality pattern, underlying substantially influenced type variables. Main conclusions Our results illustrate that identified as predictors can be sensitive size, sensitivity not equally apparent under different measures obtained same data. We call for broader discussion appropriateness gradients. particularly mismatches may result misguided conservation or management initiatives.
