‘Barbarous cruelty at the British Museum’: mediatization, authority, and reputation in nineteenth-century England

摘要: This article considers the usefulness of mediatization theories in historical studies media. Using a series letters published UK newspaper The Times between 1885 and 1886 as an example, examines way which processes developed alongside institutions social cultural power by they were reflexively constituted. On basis Hjarvard’s distinction direct indirect forms mediatization, paper looks at ways enunciation moral authority personal reputation transformed their incorporation into mediatized culture. At same time, it is argued that not standalone process but is, rather, part wider set processes. reflects on contribution to developing rounded picture media history.
