摘要: With one exception, all the begomoviruses characterized so far encode an ~134-amino acid (aa) (A)C2 protein. The exception is “Burewala” strain of Cotton leaf curl Kokhran virus (CLCuKoV-Bu), associated with resistance breaking in cotton across Pakistan and northwestern India, that encodes a truncated 35-aa C2. C2 protein encoded by performs multiple functions including suppression post-transcriptional gene silencing (PTGS), modulating microRNA (miRNA) expression may be pathogenicity determinant. study described here was designed to investigate whether CLCuKoV-Bu retains activities full-length results showed acts as determinant, suppresses PTGS upregulates miRNA when expressed from Potato X vector Nicotiana benthamiana. symptoms induced were more severe than those accumulation most developmental miRNAs decreases increases peptide CLCuKoV-Bu. also revealed maintains suppressor activity at level equal significance respect fitness discussed.
