摘要: Lake Tanganyika harbours the most diverse endemic cichlid fish assemblage of Africa, but its monogenean parasites have not been investigated. Here we report, for first time, on Gyrodactylus in this hotspot biodiversity. Haptor morphometrics and nuclear ribosomal DNA sequences revealed 3 new species Zambian Simochromis diagramma: sturmbaueri n. sp., G. thysi sp. zimbae Their distinct morphology strong genetic differentiation suggest that they belong to distant lineages within genus Gyrodactylus, phylogenetic reconstructions affinities with other genera gyrodactylids. Additional U-shaped haptoral plates a second large spine-like structure male copulatory organ seem represent features genus. Such diversity single host can probably be explained by host-switching events during course evolution, agreement generally accepted concept ecological transfer is an important aspect gyrodactylid speciation. parasitological surveys species, covering broader geographical range, should clarify evolutionary history Gyrodactylidae cichlids African Great parts Africa.
