摘要: OBJECTIVES: To describe mortality and case fatality rate due to bacterial meningitis in the Lazio Region from 1996 2000, compare these estimates with those Cause-of-death Registry (CDR) Hospital Discharge (HDR). METHODS: A follow-up study of was conducted through Offices for cases reported surveillance 1996-2000 among residents Region. Death defined as a patient who died during hospitalization or within 30 days after whose underlying cause death (ICD-9: 036.0, 036.1, 036.2,320.0, 320.1, 320.2, 320.3, 320.7, 320.8, 320.9, 027.0). Case rates estimated were compared CDR HDR same period. RESULTS: 525 whole period; 98 deaths detected (CFR) 18.7% (CI 95% 15.4-22.5); higher patients 64+ year old (44.6%; CI 33.7-55.9) Streptococcus pneumoniae (27.5%; 20.3-35.6) Listeria (32.0%; 14.9-53.5). The CFR 10.1% according 10.9% HDR. CONCLUSIONS: CFRs differ database used. Differences may be partially selective lower sensitivity reporting deceased cases, but most important factor seems definition used other sources data.
