New insights into upper MOW variability over the last 150kyr from IODP 339 Site U1386 in the Gulf of Cadiz

摘要: The upper Mediterranean Outflow Water (MOW) paleo-oceanographic history in the Gulf of Cadiz is poorly constrained due to lack high-resolution records that pre-date last glaciation. Existing proxy concentrate on MOW variability along middle slope Cadiz. Here we present a continuous benthic foraminifera δ18O record from core at IODP Expedition 339 Site U1386 past 150,000 years. Based δ18O, grain-size and Zr/Al comparison our results with existing Sea (MD01-2472, MD95-2043), open ocean (LR04) (MD99-2339) have gathered new insights into evolution glacial–interglacial timescales. influence was strongest during MIS 5 1. Similar can be seen Levantine Intermediate (LIW) originating Basin Eastern Sea. We found clear indication for vertical shift sea level lowstands coinciding 4 2 but also 3. Additionally, indicate an increased flow correlated Heinrich Events 7 10 Younger Dryas, inversely relate precession-forced monsoonal freshwater inputs Mediterranean. In context Sapropel formation, could not find conclusive evidence proposed shutdown data.
