摘要: One of the ways that we perceive shape is through seeing motion1,2,3. Visual motion may be actively generated (for example, in locomotion), or passively observed. In study perception three-dimensional structure from motion, non-moving, passive observer an environment moving rigid objects has been used as a substitute1 for active stationary objects; this ‘rigidity hypothesis’ played central role computational and experimental studies motion4,5. Here show not adequate substitution because observers can differently, despite experiencing same visual stimulus: observers' depends on extraretinal information about their own movements. The system thus treats are (in allocentric, earth-fixed reference frame) differently merely rigid. These results action makes important contribution to depth perception, argue revision rigidity hypothesis incorporate special case objects.
