摘要: Summary The extent to which a species' environmental range reflects adaptive differentiation remains an open question. Environmental gradients can lead divergence when differences in stressors among sites along the gradient place conflicting demands on balance of stress responses. The this is accomplished through tolerance vs avoidance also question. We present results from controlled environment study 48 lineages Arabidopsis thaliana collected northeastern Spain across temperatures increase and precipitation decreases with decreasing elevation. We tested clinal heat drought explained traits by subjecting plants dynamic growth chamber cycle increasing analogous low elevation spring Spain. Lineages at were most fit fitness scaled origin. Higher was associated earlier bolting, greater early allocation increased numbers inflorescences, reduction rosette leaf photosynthesis fruit ripening. We propose that syndrome flowering accompanied restructuring organism adapts A. thaliana low-elevation Mediterranean climates.
