摘要: Diabetes has emerged as a serious health problem in the Navajo nation, largest Indigenous tribe US. Persons with diabetes are at greater risk for developing other diseases such cardiovascular disease. Navajos almost certainly face diminished quality of life if their is not managed properly. Aside from genetics, incidence highly correlated income, poor diet, and limited physical exercise. A review literature also implicates dietary shifts initiated by historical events contemporary trends. Numerous studies have shown that moderate consumption fruits vegetables, combined exercise, reduces or delays onset many including diabetes. As part larger holistic approach, home community garden projects successfully addressed nutrition food security issues on grassroots scale. The tradition farming therefore expanding interventions to include promotion gardens provides multiple opportunities. benefits these actions include: (i) variety nutritious grown locally; (ii) activity attained through act daily gardening tasks; (iii) positive income garnered terms savings otherwise purchased stores excess produce canned, desired, sold farmer's market trading post; (iv) mental outlook sense accomplishment harvest time, bonding earth, spiritual growth. objectives this article were development nation though literature, provide insight into role diet exercise progression disease, offer cases suggestions can play reduction. concluding discussion proposes multidisciplinary approach tackling involving public officials, nutritionists, horticultural extension agents could be applied internationally similar multicultural, semi-arid climates.
