摘要: Epigenetic mechanisms are essential for governing gene transcription and vital to proper tissue development homeostasis. Conversely, deregulation of these can lead disease progression. Histone deacetylases (HDACs) form a critical family enzymes that remodel chromatin by removing acetylation marks from histone tails, causing compaction repressive transcriptional environment. HDACs also remove acetyl moieties other protein targets, including subset factors, resulting in their altered stability and/or activity. Together, functions allow affect diverse cellular processes direct cell fate. Global tissue-specific deletion individual Hdac genes genetic mouse models has revealed vivo requirements normal embryonic adult functions. In this chapter we will discuss the roles played epithelial cells skin, an accessible model system studying fate decisions during development, homeostasis, disease.
