Polysaccharides of marine diatoms with special reference to Chaetoceros species

摘要: The alkali-soluble polysaccharides of the cell wall from 7 different marine diatoms were shown to contain monosaccharides rhamnose, fucose, galactose, mannose and xylose. relative amounts rhamnose fucose varied widely one species another, very rhamnose-rich Chaetoceros affinis Thalassiosira gravida, where no was found. All found have a high content rhamnose. Also proportion galactose species. observed change in monomer composition logarithmic stationary growth phase is explained by assuming fraction be mixture polysaccharides. soluble, extracellular 4 also investigated. products C. curvisetus homogeneous composed only 3 monomers: galactose. polysaccharide all investigated quite cellular fraction. ecological aspects these soluble may prove considerable interest.
