摘要: In 1992 and 1993, researchers from the National Marine Mammal Laboratory initiated photo-identification studies on Alaskan killer whales, Orcinus orca. Waters Kodiak Island west to central eastern Aleutian Islands southeastern Bering Sea were surveyed. A total of 289 individual whales identified. photographic record encountered during these surveys is presented. When photographs compared among various regions in Alaska (Prince William Sound and Southeast Alaska) areas outside (British Columbia, Washington, California), 11 matches found. The count conservative because 1993 surveys limited geographical range, restricted summer periods, may have been missed along survey trackline. Future research incorporating both photoidentification line transect will provide reliable abundance estimates whales. (PDF file contains 58 pages.)
