摘要: Abstract Purpose To evaluate the long-term prognosis of visual function in patients with orbital cavernomas after conservative and surgical treatment. Design Interventional case series. Methods The authors describe outcome 20 cavernous hemangiomas orbit treated their departments between 1988 2003. This prospective study included five cases followed by clinical radiologic observation 15 symptomatic tumors that were completely removed means a frontotemporal or transconjunctival approach. characteristics analyzed together appropriate Furthermore, present unusual patient suffering from progressive deterioration cerebral cavernoma compressing optic nerve. Results follow-up period was 3 10 years. All group conservatively managed remained stable. excision medially located lesion uncomplicated. approach chosen for large situated proximity apex associated higher number complications. A good overall satisfaction achieved 11 14 operated on craniotomy. Conclusion combination signs magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is highly sensitive specific diagnosis cavernomas. In presence clearly attributable to tumor we recommend immediate surgery, while lesions producing solely exophthalmos can safely be observation. transcranial offers excellent exposure rewarding cosmetic result may considered superior medial nerve, especially if they involve apex.
