摘要: Purpose: The authors pose the question as to whether there are any anterior chamber intraocular lenses (AC IOLs) acceptable for clinical use in 1990s. Methods: Data on incidence and types of complications 4104 AC IOLs that were submitted Center IOL Research from 1982 1993 retrieved laboratory database analyzed using cumulative frequency calculations chi-square test. Normalized explantation rates related implantation derived market-share analysis. Results: Of explanted IOLs, 50% closed-loop designs (n = 2095/4104); 26% (1100/4104) miscellaneous, older designs; 22% (919/4104) openloop lenses. most important corneal pathology (2065/4104) inflammation (1370/4104). Closed-loop responsible almost 80% pathology, with an increasing complication rate ongoing implant duration ( P Conclusion: Complication flexible, open-loop much lower than previously assumed. They should be distinguished clearly designs. Consideration these alternative sutured posterior secondary or exchange may warranted selected indications. also could provide aphakic spectacle rehabilitation program developing countries, which will have a positive impact overwhelming backlog patients cataract underprivileged world.
