摘要: Pancreatic cancer is associated with the worst prognosis of all gastrointestinal malignancies. The major reasons for dismal outcome are late diagnosis due to unspecific symptoms and aggressive tumor biology. Although highly effective chemotherapeutic options have emerged within last decade, radical resection offers only chance cure. Only 10-20% patients resectable at presentation, 30-40% present borderline or locally advanced/unresectable tumors. Even if resectable, 5-year-survival rate after complete resections remains unsatisfactory, less than 25%. This article gives an overview on current therapy standards as well new approaches especially advanced tumors outlines importance ongoing research improve prognosis.
