A meta-ethnographic synthesis of women's experience of breastfeeding.

摘要: Despite considerable evidence and effort, breastfeeding duration rates in resource-rich countries such as Australia remain below World Health Organization recommendations. The literature on the experience of indicates that women construct differently depending upon their own personal circumstances culture within which they live. Breastfeeding has also been described a deeply experience, can be associated with ‘moral’ decision-making. aim this synthesis was to better understand social phenomenon by making hidden obvious. Using meta-ethnographic approach, we analysed findings from 17 qualitative studies exploring women's breastfeeding. Commonly used metaphors, ideas phrases across national international were identified. Two overarching themes emerged. terms ‘expectation’ ‘reality’, while emotional aspects expressed ‘connected’ or ‘disconnected’ terms. prevalence health professionals public discourses language use describe subsequent impact maternal confidence self-assessment are discussed. This provides insight into some subtle ways build improve early mothering.
