摘要: Background. Applications of cost-effectiveness analysis do not typically incorporate effects on caregiver quality life despite increasing evidence that these are measurable. Methods. Using a national sample US adults, we conducted 2 cross-sectional surveys during December 2011 and January 2012. One version asked respondents to value their own experience as the family member person with chronic illness (experienced sample), other hypothetical scenarios describing having (community sample). Conditions included Alzheimer’s disease/dementia, arthritis, cancer, depression. standard gamble questions, were spillover member’s illness. We used regression evaluate disutility (loss in health-related life) by condition relationship type, controlling for respondent’s conditions sociodemographic characteristics. Results. For experienced (n = 1389), analyses suggested greater was associated certain (arthritis, depression) compared (Alzheimer’s disease, cancer). community 1205), indicated lower (cancer) but type ill (parent, child, spouse). Conclusions. The extend beyond individual patient include caregivers patients, parents children, spouses, close household members. Cost-effectiveness should consider inclusion addition caregiving time costs incurred members individuals.
