摘要: Background & Aims Recently, a group of hepatologists proposed to rename non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) as metabolic associated (MAFLD) with modified diagnostic criteria. We aimed study the impact new definition on epidemiology disease. Methods randomly selected 922 adults from Hong Kong census database for clinical assessment, proton-magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and transient elastography. Five hundred sixty-five subjects without at baseline underwent follow-up assessment. MAFLD was diagnosed intrahepatic triglyceride content (IHTG) ≥5% presence overweight/obesity, diabetes, or two other risk factors, concomitant diseases. The diagnosis NAFLD required exclusion diseases; factors were not considered. Results population prevalence 25.9% (95% CI 23.2-28.7%) 25.7% 23.1-28.5%), respectively. Among 277 IHTG ≥5%, 247 (89.2%) fulfilled both definitions NAFLD. Fourteen (5.1%) had but did meet criteria MAFLD. incidence 2.8 per 100 person-years median interval 47 months (range 34-60 months). 78 incident NAFLD, 59 (75.6%) met MAFLD; only one latter, regular drinker, stiffness ≥10 kPa. Conclusions does significantly change compared it may reduce by 25%. People hepatic steatosis fulfilling unlikely have significant
