摘要: Wetlands and surface waters are recognized to play important roles in climate, hydrologic biogeochemical cycles, availability of water resources. Until now, quantitative, global time series spatial temporal dynamics inundation have been unavailable. This study presents the first estimate monthly inundated areas for 1993-2000. The data set is derived from a multisatellite method employing passive microwave land emissivities calculated SSM/I ISCCP observations, ERS scatterometer responses, AVHRR visible near-infrared reflectances. satellite used calculate fractions equal area grid cells (0.25° x 0.25° at equator), taking into account contribution vegetation signal. Global varies maximum 5.86 10 6 km 2 (average 1993-2000) mean minimum 2.12 . These values considered consistent with existing independent, static inventories. new estimates also show good agreement regional high-resolution SAR observations over Amazon basin. seasonal interannual variations evaluated against rain rate Precipitation Climatology Project (GPCP) levels wetlands, lakes, rivers measured altimeters. base now being hydrology modeling methane studies GCMs.
