摘要: In an 8-month period nine patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection were diagnosed as having visceral leishmaniasis; all diagnoses based on cultures (eight from bone marrow and one the skin). Visceral leishmaniasis developed before full-blown acquired syndrome (AIDS) in seven at same time or after AIDS other two patients. Three had a history of leishmaniasis. Clinical manifestations laboratory findings atypical. Leishmania species cultured samples taken patients; however, six insignificant antileishmanial antibody titer amastigotes not seen their smears. Four isolates identified by isoenzyme analysis donovani infantum. Five died, including who completed least 3-week course therapy N-methylglucamine antimoniate. Screening should be done for HIV live travel areas where disease is endemic. The diagnosis may frequently missed if are done.
