摘要: BACKGROUND The clinical symptoms and durations of illness patients with infectious mononucleosis (IM) are variable poorly documented in the scientific literature. METHODS Patients who presented for care at Student Health Service a Canadian university between September 1985 May 1988 had been diagnosed as having IM were surveyed. experience during acute convalescent phases was compared that group matched age, sex, date diagnosis, year study, suffered upper respiratory tract infections (URI), other than Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-induced, same period. RESULTS Students sicker longer after non-EBV-induced URI. During phase illness, fatigue (P = less .000001), night sweats painful neck swelling .00003) seen significantly more often group. severity duration these also worse patients. Getting tired easily .002), diurnal somnolence depression .002) common postacute symptoms. Eleven percent reported persistence 100 days, 6% persisted 1 year. Convalescent cases showed trend toward reduced alcohol intake and, perhaps, tolerance. CONCLUSIONS involves excessive morbidity student community URI EBV-induced, both infection.
