Explicit (Not Implicit) Attitudes Mediate the Focus of Attention During Sentence Processing.

摘要: Many studies showed that comprehenders monitor changes in protagonists' emotions and actions. This article reports two experiments explored how focusing comprehenders' attention on a particular property of the protagonist dimension (e.g., emotional or action state) affects accessibility information about target objects mentioned sentence. Furthermore, present research examined whether participants' attitudes toward issues described sentence can modulate comprehension processes. To this end, we asked participants to read sentences environmental focused different mental physical attributes same entities (protagonists objects) then self-report their own thoughts topic environment by responding items assessing awareness. Importantly, manipulated task requirements across administering (Experiment 1), which required rate seriousness frequency problem sentence; sentence-picture verification paradigm 2), merely indicate if object depicted picture (related certain problem) was preceding The results these suggest focus (rather than protagonist's emotion action) enhances plastic garbage); comprehender's level awareness influences one's during processing; comprehender characteristics significantly processes only when measures tap into explicit (and not implicit)
