摘要: The function of the cerebral cortex is dependent on precise organization circuits formed by its component neurons. connections between neurons are not random, but specific at multiple levels organization. For example, each cortical area connects to only a selected subset other areas and within any given axonal dendritic arbors individual arborize in precise, layer-specific patterns (for review see Felleman & Van Essen, 1991; Callaway, 1998) . In layer there dendrites from cell types including cells with somata both outside that layer. Anatomical studies have shown axons arborizing particular can connect selectively onto some layer, while avoiding (e.g. Freund Gulyas, Hornung Celio, 1992; Staiger et al., 1996). These type are, however, difficult elucidate anatomical methods, so frequency such specificity has remained elusive. Recent experimental methods combining intracellular recording single focal neuronal stimulation uncaging glutamate light (“photostimulation”) made analysis more tractable. show prevalent cortex. Here I photostimulation-based investigating laminar sources input distinct visual somatosensory cortices rats primary monkeys.
