摘要: The effects of steps and ordered defects on the surface states supported by Cu(110) terraces are investigated a combination reflection anisotropy spectroscopy (RAS) scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). For several vicinal (110)-type surfaces, we measure 2.1-eV RAS peak arising from transitions between states. A Poelsema-Comsa scattering model is used to relate intensity this signal morphology (the distributions terrace widths step-edge roughness) observed STM, providing ability scatter Shockley-type state. cross section area equivalent 20 unit cells obtained---a value consistent with previous results obtained other types defect for surface. We find that model, originally developed random defects, also applicable modeling intensities surfaces partially defects: specifically steps. Our highlight growing importance methodology in data extracting topographic information associated particularly hostile environments, where can access as real-time situ probe.
