摘要: The structure of mercury-supported Langmuir films dicarboxylic acid molecules with 13 ≤ n 22 carbons is studied by X-ray methods and surface tensiometry. lie surface-parallel, forming mono-, bi-, or trilayers, depending on coverage. All exhibit a full 2D order the same single-molecule oblique unit cell. In particular, distinct odd–even difference 3D crystals not observed. cell’s width angle show small systematic decrease n, while length increases commensurately molecular length. These results to consist closely packed, extended, polymer-like chains diacid molecules, bound their carboxyl end groups. Evidence presented for inclusion single mercury atom in carboxyl–carboxyl bond. possible conformation this bond implications parity-independent are discussed.
