Prevalence of Intestinal Parasitic Infections in Haftkel County, Southwest of Iran

摘要: Background: Nowadays, intestinal parasitic infections (IPIs) are one of the most common and serious public health problems, which affected 3.5 billion people worldwide, especially in developing countries. During time distribution, pattern disease may alter as a result changing life style residents. Objectives: The current study was aimed to determine prevalence IPIs town Haftkel, southwest Iran. Methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, 13698 stool specimens were collected during 2010 - 2013. For all samples, both direct smear formalin ether concentration methods done. Finally data analysis performed using SPSS version 11.0.1 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). Results: 658 (4.8%) out positive for Giardia lamblia detected 433 (3.16%) samples commonest parasite. Other parasites included: Entamoeba histolytica/dispar (0.7%), E. coli (0.56%), hartmanni (0.21%), Blastocystis hominis (0.1%), Hymenolepis nana (0.04%), Taenia spp (0.014%), Enterobius vermicularis (0.007%). A decreasing trend observed frequency 281 (6.42%) cases declined 114 (3.83) maximum minimum infection seen summer season (34.35%) winter (15.35%), respectively. Furthermore, number infected men significantly higher than women (64.5% against 35.5%). Interestingly, no hookworm, Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichiura eggs study. Conclusions: Based on findings, particularly helminthic have been past decades. Therefore, education improving facilities environmental rural semi-urban areas can be helpful.
