摘要: Abstract Chitosan is one of the most widely used natural biopolymers for a great variety biomedical applications owing to its biocompatibility, biodegradability, and antibacterial activity, being generally regarded as safe material. It can be employed dispersant, binder, surface charge agent particles in suspension. Electrophoretic deposition (EPD) chitosan, especially combination with other materials, receiving increasing attention applications. This article presents comprehensive review field EPD chitosan-based composite coatings by highlighting their microstructural, mechanical, surface, biological properties. Since suspension characteristics have significant influences on mechanisms, kinetics, overall properties electrophoretically deposited coatings, parameters such concentration, viscosity, zeta potential are discussed, including suspensions hydroxyapatite, bioactive glass particles, carbonaceous materials inorganic organic materials. The mechanisms proposed each system highlighted. Moreover, effects key process microstructural homogeneity, mechanical well emphasised, specific approaches future research based state-of-the-art considering produced tissue engineering drug delivery systems.
