摘要: Abstract Purpose This study aimed to compare the effects of different orthognathic and camouflage treatments for correcting moderate skeletal class II III malocclusions on pharyngeal airway space (PAS). Materials methods Lateral cephalograms 89 patients with malocclusion (WITS up 7 mm, −7 mm respectively) were evaluated before after treatment. PAS was divided into 6 levels (P1: nasopharynx, P2-4: oropharynx, P5-6: laryngopharynx), 7 groups formed depending type treatment: 1) II, mandibular advancement; 2) maxillary setback/mandibular 3) upper premolar extraction; 4) III, setback; 5) 6) advancement/mandibular 7) lower extraction. Results Significant changes occurred only in (groups 1 surgery nasopharyngeal oropharyngeal space. Furthermore, significant differences between found when compared extraction group: group vs. 3 (P3: −1.31 mm (SD 1.74 mm) 0.89 mm 1.79 mm); P4: −0.72 mm 2.82 mm) 1.42 mm 2.16 mm); P ≤ 0.05), 2 (P2: 0.35 mm 1.96 mm) 2.28 mm 1.88 mm), P3: −1.31 mm 1.96 mm), 2.84 mm 2.16 mm), P ≤ 0.05). Conclusions Orthognathic seems affect slightly. Premolar extractions compensation (camouflage treatment) can result a reduction oropharynx both types malocclusions. Therefore, borderline presence OSAS, should be considered.
