摘要: The swelling–shrinkage kinetic of an industrial Bentonite (MX80) was investigated using a new technique environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) coupled with digital image analysis (DIA) program (Visilog). This expansive clay characterized by several analytic tools (ICP-AES, SEM, STEM, XRD, etc.), before applying the ESEM technique. directly observed at high magnification and different relative humidity states in ESEM. Nine wetting/drying cycles were performed on sample. Each cycle humidities (55%, 60%, 65%, 70%, 75%, 80%, 85%, 90%, 95%). A DIA used to determine swelling–shrinkage. method consists estimating percent augmentation surface as function time. Finally, model tested, based first-order linear equation. results show that can be powerful swelling/shrinkage potential clays. exponential fits well experimental data. D 2003 Elsevier Science B.V.
