摘要: Human trafficking is a human rights violation affecting millions worldwide. Victims may go unrecognized during their emergency department (ED) visit, and lose the opportunity to address complex needs. Using published toolkit based on existing guidelines recommendations from experts, models other centers, we describe implementation of an ED response protocol. In following toolkit, began with attempts fully understand local problem then networked those working in anti-trafficking efforts. Collaboration specialties highlighted as key part this process. Building upon knowledge gained these steps, were able develop concise protocol guide members our more effectively caring for known or suspected victims trafficking. The first section addresses ways which providers can identify at-risk patients through both screening questions general observations. Interviewing techniques are outlined emphasis patient-centered trauma-informed care. Additionally, discusses physician responsibility documenting encounters legal reporting, vary depending location. We stress importance meeting needs patient while prioritizing safety all involved. provides list resources beyond medical care such housing, assistance, food pantries. overall purpose provide coordinated so that be consistent vulnerable population.
