摘要: Abstract Chickens are a highly important source of protein for large proportion the human population. The cecal microbiota plays crucial role in chicken nutrition through production short chain fatty acids, nitrogen recycling and amino acid production. In this study we sequenced DNA from contents samples taken 24 chickens belonging to either fast or slower growing breed consuming vegetable-only diet containing fish meal. We utilised 1.6T Illumina data construct 469 draft metagenome-assembled bacterial genomes, including 460 novel strains, 283 species 42 genera. also compared abundance these carbohydrate active enzymes they produce, between our groups demonstrate that there both breed- diet- specific microbiomes, as well an overlapping core microbiome. This will form basis future studies examining composition function microbiota.
