摘要: In two investigations, we studied vulnerability to the negative effects of stress among women in chronic pain from 2 types musculoskeletal illnesses, fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) and osteoarthritis (OA). Study 1, there were 101 female participants 50 78 years old: had FMS, 29 OA knee scheduled for surgery, 22 but not planning surgery. Cross-sectional analyses showed that three groups comparable on demographic variables, personality attributes, affect, active coping, perceived social support. As expected, FMS surgery reported similar levels bodily pain, both scored higher than nonsurgery women. However, with poorer emotional physical health, lower positive a quality milieu, more frequent use avoidant coping did OA. Moreover, perception support closely tied only group. 2, experimentally manipulated mood 41 37 74 20 21 Participants each group randomly assigned either induction or neutral (control) condition, then all discussed stressful interpersonal event 30 min. Stress-related increases exacerbated by OA, during was associated decreases affect These findings suggest those may be particularly vulnerable stress. They have fewer affective resources, less effective pain-coping strategies, constrained networks their counterparts who experience pain. also seem prolonged stress-related under certain circumstances, which contribute lowering increased reactivity over time.
