摘要: Abstract Nearly 75% of European fishing vessels belongs to small-scale fisheries (SSF). However, SSF have received little attention compared industrial fisheries. In the Mediterranean Sea, where traditionally had a high socio-economic relevance, there is widespread interest in securing its sustainable exploitation and viability. Here we analyze from Mallorca (Balearic Islands) using fishery statistics last 25 years (1990–2014). Although fleet size declined markedly (−55%), landings remained constant which might be related different, not mutually exclusive explanations such as decrease unreported catches, stagnant closed market or technological creeping. Multivariate analysis revealed eight different tactics corresponding main target species. Aggregated, these species accounted for 52% 71% weight value, respectively. The seasonal most them showed important fluctuations but no clear trends. contrast with claims having lower impact on natural resources than other fisheries, surplus production models generalized overexploitation stocks, especially high-valued Simulations bioeconomic model that effort reductions 38% would improve health fish stocks while increasing economic profits much 15% current profits. If all were kept below their MSY level, reduction 53% values. yield was maximized (MEY), need reduced by 28%. Owing quantities catches species, output values stock status indicators modelling should taken care beyond tracking trends fishery.
