摘要: ABSTRACT Introduction: The objective was to evaluate the perceived risks, barriers and stages of change on smoking cessation among Malay male security guards. Materials Methods: In year 2004, a cross sectional survey conducted group guards working in campus hospital public university Kuala Lumpur. Universal sampling (n=210) with response rate 88.6%. A self-administered questionnaire used participants their status, change, risks cessation. Results: There were 37% current smokers 23.7% ex-smokers. mean 19.2 + 8.1 number cigarettes smoked 16.4 8.0 per day smokers. About two-third amount currently bad for health. However, only 23.3% 30.9% themselves be at higher risk lung cancer heart disease respectively. three main reasons quit health reasons, doctors’ advice cost. addiction (53.3%) stress (28.3%). Most (42%) pre-contemplation stage half them not having thoughts quitting. Conclusion: had misperception majority findings this add existing literature about perception This will provide valuable information planning delivering programmes local context.
